Nancy has been a dedicated club member and highly involved in club activities for many years.
LVRR: Why do you volunteer for the LVRR Kids Run?
Nancy Hofmann: I feel the Kids Run program is important to encourage children to become and remain active. The program provides the right blend of competition and encouragement. I LOVE meeting the kids and watching them develop into young adults. I so enjoy seeing them gain confidence as the summer progresses. My 11-12 year-olds start out relying on parents to check them into the events, but by the end of the summer the kids are signing in by themselves. It’s wonderful watching some of them turning into Kids Run volunteers as they grow older.
LVRR: What do you like best about the LVRR Kids Run?
Nancy: I like watching the kids gain confidence and maturity as the summer progresses. I like seeing families sharing an outdoor activity.
LVRR: Are you involved with any other LVRR events?
Nancy: I have volunteered for EVERY LVRR event at one time or another. I was race director for the South Mountain 10-miler and 5K races for 17 years. I was secretary of LVRR Board of Directors for many years. I organized volunteer recognition events for a number of years, and I supported many informal LVRR events such as clubhouse cleaning days, Groundhog Day runs, and years of summer series. I volunteer the day before the LVRR Half Marathon manning the computers to resolve problem issues.
LVRR: What is / was your day job?
Nancy: I was involved in special education for 40 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
LVRR: Do you have any running / walking / fitness goals for 2019?
Nancy: My goal is to keep moving and enjoying it!
LVRR: How many years have you been active with running / walking / exercise?
Nancy: I was always active as a kid – running, playing, skating, competing. I swam in high school and college. I played very competitive volleyball for 10 years. I started running in 1975 and am still trying to keep active.
