December Club News

Hello and Happy Holidays!

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us it’s time to start thinking about the holiday season and how you’re going to train through all that delicious food and sweets … Oh! The sweets!!! … But, there’s that winter goal race on your calendar. Yea, we get it. The holidays are vicious on our training schedules. Hopefully, you can rein it back and just enjoy yourself. We all deserve a much-needed break from time to time, especially during heavy training.

Speaking of winter and races, we are gearing up for the start of our winter race season. Our first Ice Scraper 5k takes place on December 11. Sign up by 9 PM on Saturday the 10th if you want to race.

Be sure to join us on January 1st!! It’s our annual New Year Run. This tradition has been going on since before the Emmaus Road Runners and Lehigh Valley Athletic Association merged to form the Lehigh Valley Road Runners, well over 30 years. (quiz later…) You really want to be a part of this awesome tradition!! We aren’t racing, we’re just running up and down a mountain. Champagne toast at the top. (Of course.) There is walking involved. But the run back down is really fun and worth the trek up. There is also a 5k option (but you miss the champagne. Sorry.)

After all this, we meet up over at Fire Company #2 (just down the street) for food and drinks ON THE CLUB. Everyone is welcome to join us so please invite your friends and let’s have some New Year runner fun!!

The Superbowl Tailgate Trot 10k race committee has been busy making plans for February’s race. Registration opened in November. The committee is working on a new shirt design as well as that fun top 50 giveaway (we love that tradition.) Top 50 male and top 50 female finishers get a gift. (Maybe we’ll reveal next month?)

A quick remark about the Parkway — Lights in the Parkway is going on and you’ll need to bear this in mind when visiting the park later in the day.

HOLIDAY GIVING

If you are in Bethlehem please stop in at Aardvark Sports Shop and grab a tag from their Giving Tree. Here is their message on Instagram:

“Please consider helping a local child in need this holiday season by choosing a card from our decorated Giving Tree! 🎄 Every card has a child’s name, age, and a wished-for item. Return your wrapped present for the child to us with the child’s name visible on the gift by end of day Sun Dec 11. The Children, Youth & Families Division of Northampton County will happily pick up and deliver all presents we receive in time for Christmas!”

Keystone Running Store is collecting canned/boxed food, turkeys and hams through the holiday. Along with your donation, you’ll receive a 20% discount on apparel, accessories, and slippers (electronics excluded.)

BOARD UPDATE

We’d like to thank Mitch Hanna for his efforts and participation on our Board of Directors. Mitch needed to step away from his duties and focus on other things. Ed Lundeen joined the Board after a call was sent to our membership about the opening. Ed has been a member of the club for the past six years and we look forward to his ideas and participation on the Board.

Finally, now that it’s December don’t forget to renew your club membership for 2023.
