Celebrating You
Instead of lamenting the crazy year that we just had, we want to send you all good wishes and many thanks for sticking by us and being so understanding with our event cancellations and postponements. We will all get through this last stretch of the pandemic and be happier and more grateful for the opportunities ahead of us.
Here is a brief summary of what 2020 looked like for LVRR:
EVENTS:
We held our Ice Scraper Series in January, February and March. (Our ’20-’21 series is currently underway and for now, is virtual. More below.) We also held our Superbowl Tailgate Trot last February. These were the only 4 in-person events for the year, the rest of our events were forced to cancel due to restrictions beyond our control.
GRANTS:
The Grant Committee approved $5,400 in grant money to five organizations in 2020. The organizations that were forced to cancel events were contacted and we asked them to keep the money to use for next year’s event.
Here is a list of this year’s grant recipients:
- Allentown School District Middle School Track & Field
- St. Elizabeth Regional School CYO XC/T&F program
- Girls on the Run Lehigh Valley
- Southern Lehigh High School Track & Field
- Liberty High School XC/T&F program
SCHOLARSHIPS:
LVRR awarded 7 scholarships totaling $22,000 this year. Each year, we receive many applicants who continue to set the bar and make choosing recipients more and more difficult. Please visit this news article for a list of this year’s scholarship recipients.
CLUBHOUSE FLOODED:
In early August Hurricane Isaias wreaked havoc on the clubhouse which was submerged by 2-feet of floodwater. Club members came together for a deep cleaning of the clubhouse and much of our race items that were housed in our Summer Kitchen. For photos and a brief summary, you can check out this August news article.
VIRTUAL BOARD MEETINGS:
In the past, the Board of Directors toyed with virtual meeting options when a Board member was unable to attend a meeting in person due to work travel or other reasons. This year, we hosted several virtual meetings due to COVID-19 and state gathering restrictions. Luckily, as most of you have learned in the past 8 months, virtual meetings DO work. We get to see each other’s faces and hear our voices and conduct business as usual. We post our Board Minutes online and if interested, you can view them here.
NEW KIOSK:
We were first contacted by future Eagle Scout, Tristan Schmidt, two years ago as he embarked on his service project. He has since built a beautiful kiosk for the club and the local community that sits between the clubhouse and the parking lot. He recently put some finishing touches on the kiosk by adding plexiglass and a slate roof. We will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at some point in the future. You will be able to find a park map and information about club events and happenings and other Parks Department info at the kiosk.
TIME FOR SHARING:
We’re missing all of you gathering on our porch and yard, saturated in post-race sweat, exchanging race tales while refueling and waiting for results. Let’s try something new… take a selfie in front of the clubhouse when you are in the Parkway and share it on our Facebook page.
Let’s see those smiling faces!
